SAVE OUr COMPOST

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic led to major budget cuts in NYC, and the entire residential compost program was majorly defunded.

This page offers a regularly updated list of resources for NYC residents to take action to keep our compost.

  • Get your compost picked up for a fee:

  • Here’s a crowdsourced map of some potential organics drop-off locations in NYC! Always make sure to reach out to a location to make sure they can accommodate your needs on a given day.

#SaveOurCompost

#SaveOurCompost Coalition Principles (DRAFT):

  1. Save Our Compost members support immediate restoration and equitable expansion of community compost and recycling drop-off sites throughout the City.

  2. We support organic waste recycling as a free, public service for all residents of New York City, including legislation of mandatory citywide curbside compost program as soon as possible.

  3. To the extent possible, we support the use of local, community-based composting to process NYC organic waste.

  4. We support other policies and legislation that will further the City's Zero Waste by 2030 goals and further the development of local green recycling and reuse jobs in both the public and commercial sectors.
