Details: Part-time (20+ weekly hours) Waste Audit lead and Zero Events lead, on-site work (Position will transition to full-time.)

Common Ground Compost (CGC) is a Zero Waste services company with four divisions: consulting, zero waste events, microhauling, and education/advocacy. CGC builds waste management systems and programs using education, best practices in infrastructure planning and design, and waste stream analytics all with a focus on increasing waste diversion. CGC gives individuals and businesses the tools they need to understand and implement waste reduction strategies in their lives and operations. We are a work-from-home team based in NYC.

The Position:

This job is intended to start as part-time and transition to full-time on a timeline to be determined.

This position's current focus is to be our on-site events lead as well as our Waste Audit lead, with administrative and additional consulting responsibilities.

We are looking for a candidate who can join and help grow our company by delivering zero waste consulting and events services to our clients, using existing tools and templates and collaborating with our team to continue to streamline our service delivery process, while helping to bring on new clients. The individual will report to our consulting team and operations officer.

A large part of the consulting work will include waste audits and zero waste events, which more often than not occur during nighttime hours, and the ideal candidate will take a management role in helping lead and execute these services.

Due to the physical nature of the position, it is a requirement that you are able to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift 40 lb safely.

This role will be very dynamic and has tons of room for growth with our small organization.

Division Responsibilities:

  • Execute deliverables for our consulting and events clients

  • Design opportunities for waste reduction and diversion, materials reuse, purchasing

    improvements to shift waste generation, and all steps "before the bin"

  • Conduct site visits, meet with clients in person and/or virtually/by phone, manage client communications

  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, vendors, site staff, partner organizations, and more

  • Manage project timelines

  • Execute Waste Audits to CGC’s exacting standards.

  • Manage waste audit and event staff on-site

  • Deliver training to on-site waste audit and event staff

  • Prepare, compile, and deliver reports and recommendations

  • Identify opportunities to improve services offered and division operations, collaborate with the rest of the CGC team on overlapping deliverables and new initiatives where appropriate

Additionally, this candidate will participate in consulting program management, which includes:

  • Collaborating on the consulting division budget and growth targets

  • Developing proposals, scopes of work, and estimates

  • Invoicing for deposits on projects and for work completed

  • Managing contracts, requests for proposals, and other documentation

  • Bringing on new clients from pitch to service agreement signature

  • Identifying opportunities to improve services offered and division operations, collaborating with the rest of the CGC team on overlapping deliverables and new initiatives where appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications plans and materials

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to clearly explain

    advanced technical issues in a manner that is easily understood

  • Ability to manage a wide array of tasks at one time, and to prioritize and reprioritize tasks based on a constantly shifting services landscape

  • Management experience strongly preferred

  • A stellar history of customer service and communication

  • Experience with data entry, data cleaning, and data recording are all strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of commercial waste infrastructure, including container types, methods of collection, standard and specialty waste streams, and an awareness of regulations and how waste systems exist in buildings, communities, cities, regions, countries, and globally

  • 2+ years in consulting, zero waste work, or a combination of the two

  • Bachelor's degree or higher or at least 4 years of equivalent and relevant work experience

  • TRUE Zero Waste Advisor is a big plus

  • Commercial real estate operations experience/awareness is a plus

  • Working knowledge of the Google suite of services; comfortable with Slack

  • Wrike project management experience a big plus

  • Spanish fluency (other languages are also great!) is a plus

  • Ability to ask for help when you need it. We are a small and nimble team, and we support each other to be sure that our work meets a high standard and is delivered on time

  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels

Details:

Compensation: 30k/annually for 20 hours a week in equivalent hourly rate, to be adjusted based on experience

○ 60k+ when transitioned to full time and access to additional commission-based compensation to be discussed.

Benefits: health insurance, when transitioned to full-time at least 30 hours a week, officially.

In the event that an applicant is not TRUE certified, CGC will pay for certification after the completion of a probationary period.

Worklife: We do not have a physical office. This position is primarily work from home and on-site with clients. Individual(s) must be located in NYC or the immediate surrounding area to fulfill client services, including site visits, waste audits, zero waste events, and other site-specific work.
